Stoke-on-Trent schools PFI

Stoke-on-Trent City Council undertook a rolling programme to substantially upgrade all of their primary school stock mainly by replacing their old schools with new buildings.

The City is a deprived area which has suffered the demise of it’s industry over a number of years particularly in pottery manufacturing for which it is famous.
The upgrading of the schools was seen as a way of moulding pupil attitudes by providing modern and exciting learning environments.

Most of what was supplied was from the primary range of VS furniture sometimes having different colours in each of the classrooms.
Whitecross school Hereford specialist sports college

In this project Nortek was invited to join the design team at the bid stage and were responsible for the complete FF&E package. This early partnership allowed the architects to determine the room configuration and sizes which we populated with the furniture and equipment using our CAD space planning facility.

We supplied all the fixed furniture which included the science and food technology rooms, side cupboards and shelving. We supplied all the loose furniture throughout which included the classrooms, break-out areas, dining areas, staff bases and administration areas.
Capital City Academy, London

The Capital City Academy was one of a small number of Pathfinder and high profile Academy projects to be built. It was designed by leading architects Foster and Partners and the resulting building is an outstanding example of modern school design.

The building takes a sweeping curve and one of the first to integrate a wide central street which runs through it. Classrooms have full height glass walls both on the street and outside walls which allows a view to the playing fields through the classrooms.

The architects wished to furnish such a fabulous academy building with furniture of an equal quality and we supplied a wide range of Nortek and VS products into this project.
St. Joseph’s Catholic College, Swindon

The newbuild Secondary School for 1200 pupils specialises in Business and Enterprise and was built in four phases being complete in the summer of 2006.

The design and layout of the school was thoroughly considered resulting in beautiful rooms having clean modern architecture and importantly sufficient sizes to suit the applications. The classrooms were all equipped with VS Uno-M Lignador tables and LuPo Glide skid chairs plus a height adjustable VS teachers Lecturn. We also equipped the offices and dining areas.

The offices including a prestige Head Teacher’s office area were all fitted out using VS 901 and Network desking systems and series 80000 and series 700 wall storage systems giving a very businesslike feel.
Haberdashers’ Ask’s Knights Academy, Bromley

This stunning new academy caters for some 1000 pupils and is a great example of inspired school design. Both the exterior architecture and the interior spaces are superb.

We worked in close cooperation with our client and his technical and design team to produce customised solutions including a be-spoke service desk for use with laptop computers. The furniture throughout was a mixture of Nortek and VS which produced a very attractive solution.

A key feature was the defining of the 6th form area using the VS Panton collection of seating which, in terms of design and colour, gave a different feel. All classrooms use the VS Lupo Glide seating system which is very sturdy and has proved very serviceable in schools whereas the 6th form areas have a colourful, modern designer feel.
Djanogly Academy, Nottingham

This inner city Academy was sponsored by the Djanogly family and was directed by an inspired headteacher who led the project team and had the vision to provide outstanding learning environments for it’s pupils.

Adequate storage was an issue and we installed a large number of VS 80,000 wall cupboards throughout the new academy. The technology rooms are particularly attractive and equipped with our Craftwork 2000 workstations and our Super Stools.

The classrooms used a number of triangular Nortek desks which provided layout flexibility. We also supplied a large quantity of VS seating throughout the academy.
Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate School

A new 1700 place federated boys and girls secondary school with mixed sixth form in a ‘learning village’, comprising the adjoining parish church and primary school, for the Diocese of Westminster. This was a particularly complicated project with new school being built above some of the existing school buildings.

The furniture for this project was installed in 4 separate phases over a three year period with very limited access to some classrooms. Some of these are situated at second and third floor level and at one point span the road adjacent to the main school building.

The supply included general classroom furniture, technical furniture, dining furniture, office and conference furniture as well as classroom storage cupboards through to pupil lockers.
The Minster College, Leominster

The Minster College in Herefordshire is a new BSF Pathfinder project. The Clients specification and requirements called for an advanced learning environment with community facilities so that the new Sports College would be a beacon or learning and living for the town of Leominster and North Herefordshire.

Nortek where happy to once again join forces with the same design team of Stepnell Construction and Haverstock Associates Architects which delivered the award winning Whitecross Sports Specialist College in Hereford which opened in 2006.

Nortek are presently fitting out and Project Managing the total FF&E package which is made up of products from Nortek, VS and our reliable supply chain. The project is due for completion in July 2010.
